"We can consider its throbbing, pulsing, mercurial existence as locations on a series of intersecting lines connecting the poles of the personal and public, the diary and the report, the informal and the formal, the marginalia and the academic article, the imaginative and expository."

This quote from Robert L. Root, Jr. and Michael Steinberg in the introduction to their book The Fourth Genre: Contemporary Writers of/on Creative Nonfiction captures the essence of what creative nonfiction is, and what it can do. It gets at the heart of what we will be exploring in this course.

Since this is a workshop course, our main focus will be on giving feedback to the participating writers. Use this website, then, to gain additional information about topics that we will only be able to spend a limited amount of time on during class.
